When to Go

Summer can be an amazing time to be in a city, especially in August when many locals vacate the major Europeancities in favour of the coast or country, leaving lighter traffic, less busy public transport systems, and plenty of space for tourists to explore. So if you can put up with the odd family restaurant or shop being closed, you might just find that August is one of the best times of year to visit. Otherwise, June is not yet school holidays in mainland Europe heralding quiet days for shopping and sightseeing while July will be full of bustle.
